What a great weekend for us! We got to spend Saturday up in Napa wine tasting and had a wonderful meal at the “FARM” of Carneros Inn, but I will blog about that tomorrow. Today (Sunday), we headed up to Santa Rosa to experience the safari!
We braved the weather for a 3-hour tour at the Safari West in Santa Rosa. Fortunately, the rain stayed off most of the time, and the slight mist was chilly but refreshing. The animals were roaming freely across the fields, and we got to see most of them! Turned out it was a good time to visit during these slower winter months. First of all, the traffic in and out of the preserve was very light – we were the only tour for the day and was joined by another family of 3. There were only 7 of us in the truck! Supposedly in the middle of the summer, there could be up to 9 trucks running simultaneously – you’d probably see more people than animals. Secondly, unlike the summer months, most of the animals were out grazing in the open fields without having to dodge the hot summer sun. The truck ride was an adventure in itself – we got to sit on the top of the truck and it definitely got my heart racing a bit as we traversed the uneven grounds! It was a great experience, and I highly recommend it!
They did have lodging on-site as well, I included a picture here. We didn’t stay there though…
