Raging Station Fire

Posted September 6th, 2009 in Random Thoughts

It was a terrifying sight to see the plume of smoke from the raging Station Fire in the LA area.

What happens after the photographers get home . . .

Posted April 30th, 2009 in Random Thoughts

I think I counted 48 rechargeable AA batteries, enough to cycle my 4x Canon 580 EXII 3 times!

When I saw it in the store, I knew I had to have it! It’s too hilarious and appropriate!

By the way, you can find the T-shirt online here: Penguin Clothing

Go SHARKS!!!

Posted April 12th, 2008 in Random Thoughts

I am a HUGE San Jose Sharks fan, and this is absolutely the best time of the year! After the heart breaking loss to Detroit in last year’s playoffs, they are once again looking good going into the playoffs. I was sooooo excited about the start of the playoff season, and Peggy just came to the realization that the playoffs would be much longer than a couple of weeks, “So, if the Sharks win tonight, they move on to the next round, right? WHAT, it’s the best 4 out of 7 per round?” Sorry honey, I am going to be glued to the TV shouting like a mad man until … hmm … June when the Sharks win the Stanley Cup, of course!

Go sharkies!

Origami - A Little Mischievous Fun?

Posted March 9th, 2008 in Random Thoughts

For those of you who saw the wedding slideshow from Margie and Jim’s wedding, you probably remember what happened to the center pieces by the end of the night. They went from this:

to this

Many people (okay, mainly there was one…) helped out in the creation of the origami tree, and we all learned from this said individual how to fold other little fun objects besides the ubiquitous crane. Well, a few months later, the perpetrator… I mean, this friend sent out this lovely holiday card. She later told us it was the fruit of hours and hours of sitting in a not-so-informative training class for 3 days. I have to say, though, it’s nice to receive a beautifully handcrafted card like this… Thanks Amy! Oh, if you are interested in learning how the card was made and how to fold the penguin, click here

It’s Christmas in January!

Posted January 13th, 2008 in Random Thoughts

The combination of a new tax year and generous rebates from Canon prompted us to add more equipment, mostly adding to our backup equipment and getting ourselves ready for the upcoming weddings this year.

2x 1TB Western Digital Pro II External Hard Drives - FIREWIRE 800 rocks!

2x Lexar FIREWIRE 800 Compact Flash Reader - this adds to the two I currently have. I can now simultaneously download 4x compact flash cards at once, really important when I normally shoot about 12 to 16 CF cards a wedding…

Canon 5D and grip - Another backup camera. With all the rebates from Canon, this should come out to around $1700-$1800, a bargain compared to $2600+ last year. Canon is gearing up to introduce the next generation 5D, rumored to be this month. Can’t wait!

Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS - 2nd one. A great (and extremely heavy) lens, but a must for any wedding photographer. Now, both Peggy and I can have this fun lens to shoot with, no need to fight over it anymore!

Canon 24-70 F2.8 L - Lovely images, beautiful bokeh effects!

Canon 50mm F1.4 - (not pictured) not here yet, extremely shallow depth of focus, should make for some great effects

24″ monitor - the second monitor

2x PocketWizard Plus II - I want to introduce more off-camera lighting in my images this year

Tamrac 614 Bag - 2nd one, with 4 cameras and up to 10 lenses, this is desperately needed

Canon 580EXII - 3rd one (not pictured)
