I was sooo excited when Jay told me we were going to be photographing Natalie (a good old friend from college) and Eric … for a couple of reasons. One – I haven’t seen Natalie in probably over 2 years). And two – they’re expecting!! The last time I saw Natalie was shortly after our older daughter was born, and I remember Natalie playing with her and being super good with kids. And soon … they’ll have a bundle of joy of their own!

Nat & Eric ~ I’m so happy for you both and congrats! I’m also so glad you guys could make it out to California, and thanks for being super trooppers (especially Nat)… walking all the way out to the end of Baker Beach, plus trekking it all the way up to the windy top of Fort Point for these photos!

Love this photo! But I should also be honest and admit I was shaking and holding my breathe while Jay was taking this … standing on thin ledges beyond the railings with absolutely nothing in front of below him for way too many feet. (Clearly, he doesn’t have a fear of heights and I do … just looking down! =P)

Engagement

He got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” And you said, “Yes!” Okay, that’s probably not quite how you got engaged, and just way too simple a way to describe how anyone gets engaged, and frankly, from all the engaged couples we’ve met, it’s never ever such a short story! Every couple has their own story of how they met and became engaged and one great way to celebrate your engagement is with an engagement photo session.

In our engagement sessions, we strive to capture the lifestyle of our couple. We draw inspiration from your story … how you two met, where you went on your first date, where you like to go, what you like to do. Of course, being from the Bay Area, a lot of our clients have spent a lot of time in San Francisco and the city holds a special place in their heart. Lucky for them, San Francisco has a wide range of iconic backdrops great for engagement photos! But sometimes, the most special photos are the ones in unexpected places … the favorite ice cream parlor, the first date location, the favorite restraurant (or food truck!), or where he proposed. Wherever it is, the photos are about you and something you can look back upon to reminisce about how you met and your journey leading up to your wedding day.

San Francisco City Hall, Miette, Presidio, Golden Gate Bridge Engagement Photography: Sophie and Ray

I’ve been itching to share this engagement session with you … and now I finally can! A few weeks ago, we headed up to San Francisco with Sophie and Ray for their engagement shoot. We started out at the beautiful and grand San Francisco City Hall, then headed to Sophie’s absolute favorite bakery, Miette, then mixed it up with some grungy graffiti backgrounds in the Mission and rounded out the day outdoors at the Presidio Forest and Golden Gate Bridge. Indoors vs outdoors, classic elegance vs street grunge, nature vs. urban … we covered it all.

I love how Ray is the serious one – reading between the lines, checking to make sure each and every “i” is dotted, which Sophie is just a giddy happy girl, fixing her shoe!

I’ve seen quite a few City Halls and San Francisco has one of the most grand and pretty ones in my opinion! We’ve photographed many times here and the place is so big we continue to find new angles in here!This is one of my favorite shots … I can’t wait to see their first dance!Then it was off to Miette. If you’ve never been to their shop, definitely stop by the next time you’re in SF! It’s so pretty! I feel like a little kid in a candy store when I’m in there! Love macaroons as much as Sophie does? Then you definitely need to check this place out .Sophie at the happiest place on earth (… for her … it’s Miette – not Disneyland).

Yes, they love cupcakes too!Did I mention this place is like a kid’s candy store? Oh wait! It also is a candy store! LOVE the colorful candy jar display on their wall!Yes … super happy about her macaroons! And thanks Ray for hanging onto the beautiful bouquet by Jeeryn while Sophie indulged in her desserts!After the desserts, we headed outdoors … to the colorful graffiti alleys in the Mission district … and for a walk in the Presidio forest.

Hmm…who’s scarier? Why is it that Sophie is just laughing at Ray and Ray actually looks scared!? =P So … can you guess what Sophie’s favorite color is? (Hint, look at her DS and laptop!)

San Francisco Engagement Photos at Union Square, Fort Point, Potrero Hill: Jolie and Nori

When most people think of taking engagement photos, the tendency is to lean towards sunny summery days! Nothing wrong with that, as I love warm sunny days and it’s always fun to shoot when the weather is great outside. But, don’t rule out the winter time either…especially during the holiday season. Granted the winter time can be a bit trickier from a scheduling perspective because everyone’s constantly watching the weather forecast, and then we have to debate if the weatherman is accurate or not in his prediction of rain. But when you are lucky enough to catch a crisp winter day right after a rain storm with perfectly clear skies during the day and no fog in the evening in San Francisco (and that’s a rarity even in the summer time), plus add in the beautiful holiday lights on Christmas trees in Union Square, the result speaks for itself as you can see in Jolie and Nori’s engagement photos below.

We started off their wedding engagement photos at Fort Point. Last time we were here, you may have thought this was just a plain old fort since you couldn’t even see the Golden Gate Bridge. That day however, it was perfectly clear. But … it was still freezing cold by the time we got to the top. Jolie and Nori – Thanks for braving the wintery cold weather that day….especially up top!

Next stop…food. We took a quick break in between the photo session and headed to Namu for ramen! We love ramen and have been trying all the ones rated in 7×7 San Francisco. 7×7 San Francisco claims, “This is probably the best ramen in San Francisco right now…” And in fact, they only make 6 bowls per day! And we got 2 of them! Here’s the picture proof…

How good was it? Ask Jolie and Nori for their rating =P.

After dinner we headed to Union Square full of Christmas lights!

But it was a little chilly outside. Good thing Jolie spotted a beautiful Christmas tree inside Neiman Marcus. Only problem…they *just* closed. But…Nori turned up his charm and convinced the store attendant to let the engaged couple in for a photo! But it got better, the store attendant told us to “hurry…up to the 3rd floor for a great shot with the tree!” So off we went!

Of course, on the way down Jolie wanted to stop by and check out all the shoes…

There are endless angles inside Neiman Marcus, but unfortunately, the store was closed, and we had to go…back to the streets of Union Square…

And one final night engagement shot in Potrero Hill with a view of the San Francisco skyline at night on an absolutely perfectly clear winter evening!

Nori and Jolie – We had an awesome timing hanging out with both of you around town! Can’t wait for your wedding!!

Union Square San Francisco, Fort Point Engagement Photography Sneak Peek: Jolie and Nori

We’re getting ready to ring in the new year, but before the clock strikes midnight, I wanted to share a few quick sneak peeks of Jolie and Nori’s engagement session in San Francisco. We started off at Fort Point and then after sunset, we headed out to Union Square for some night shots with lots of holiday lights as the backdrop! With all the cold and wet weather we’ve been having lately, we totally lucked out with a perfectly clear day and night (no fog at all)!

Suyun and Eric’s Engagement: Fort Point, San Francisco

It was a hot summer weekend everywhere in the Bay Area, but on this Saturday morning in San Francisco it was barely a chilly 60 degrees. Suyun and Eric met us at the fog covered Fort Point in San Francisco. As we meandered through the different corridors of this old decommissioned military fort, we found some fabulous angles. After a while, the sun even decided to peek through the fog to give us some great shadows!
